Ross-shire RDA is a newly formed Riding for the Disabled Group. The object of the group is to provide disabled children and adults, in Ross-shire and the surrounding areas, with the opportunity to ride at the level of their ability, choice and ambition to benefit their health and well being. We have now completed all the preliminary paperwork and have been accepted as a fledgling RDA group! Our group will ride at Delny Riding Centre near Invergordon and the stables and horses have been inspected and passed by the RDA society. The approved instructor is Jackie Boddington RDAI - the proprietor of Delny Riding Centre. We have a number of children with varying disabilities now waiting to start their lessons and we are frantically fundraising to make this happen! To find out how you can help check out the Volunteering, Corporate Sponsorship and Fundraising pages.Equine Therapy for disabled children and adults can be traced back to 19th Century physician Cassaign. He encouraged horse-riding for his patients suffering from mental and physical problems such as immobility and neurological disorders. The method also owes much to polio sufferer Lisa Hartel who in the 1940s, overcame her affliction through horse riding and went on to win silver medals at two separate Olympic games.Today there are more than 500 RDA groups in the UK and more than 25000 disabled children and adults enjoy the benefits of horse riding and carriage driving; each year more than 18000 dedicated volunteers give a total of more than 3.5 million hours of their time. We are completely dependent on contributions from individuals and local businesses to fund the work we do, there is no doubt that the physical and emotional benefits to our disabled riders is huge! Please help us to help them.
